2. What do you mean by status and role? 2
Ans: Role is the expected behavior of a person
who holds a certain position in the society.
Status is
the position occupied by an individual in the society.
3. Differentiate between primary group and secondary
group. 2
Ans: Difference between primary group and secondary
group:
(i) Primary
groups are small in size. But secondary groups are larger in size.
(ii) The
relationships in the primary group are direct, face-to-face, intimate and
personal. On the other hand relations in a secondary group are indirect,
impersonal and governed by formal rules.
4. Define Sociology. 2
Ans:- Auguste Comte, a French philosopher, coined the
term "sociology" in 1839. The word sociology is derived from the
Latin word "socitus" meaning "society" and the Greek word
"logos" meaning "study or science". Thus, sociology means
the science of society. It studies about society, human behavior as a social
animal, social relationships and social group.
5. What is kinship system? 2
Ans: Kinship is a system of organizing relationships between individuals and families in the family. In simple words the close relatives through birth and marriage are called kinship system.
6. Mention two elements of culture. 2
Ans:- Culture has many elements. The major components
of culture are languages, beliefs, values, ideals, behavior patterns, and
material objects.
There are two
basic elements of culture:
(i) cognitive
(ii) Standard
7. Express the meaning of social survey. 2
Ans:- Surveys are a form of planned collection of
data for the purpose of describing and analyzing the relationships between
certain variables. Social survey is a systematic method of collecting facts
about the people living in a specific geographical, cultural or administrative
area. It is a technique of collecting qualitative data about the social aspect of
the community.
8. Mention two features of family. 2
Ans: Family is one of the most important biological units
which has deep social significance.
(i)
Universality: Family is one of the most universal social group. Because it
is found in all societies, cultures and all stages of civilization and history
and is found in all parts of the world. Every human being finds himself in a
family.
(ii) Emotional
Basis: Family is based on human feelings, impulses, feelings, love,
affection, sympathy, cooperation etc. Almost all human impulses and feelings
develop in the family. All the members of the family are bound by some kind of
emotional bond due to which they make it an institution of self-sacrifice.
9. What is the meaning of socialization? 2
Ans:- Socialization, the process by which an
individual learns to adjust to a group (or society) and behave in a manner
approved by the group (or society).
10. Write two basic features of rural society. 2
Ans: Two basic features of rural society:
(i) Size of
the community: Rural communities are smaller in area than urban
communities. Since the village communities are small, the population is also
small.
(ii) Density
of Population: Due to low density of population, people have close
relationship with each other and face to face contact. Everyone in the village
knows.
