1.      Answer the following questions:     1x12=12

(a) “Destiny of India is now shaped in her classroom.” This statement was given by Kothari commission.

(b) The distance between teacher and student is an important characteristic of distance education.

(c)  ‘World Environment Day’ is observed on 05 June.

(d) The original name of the present Cotton Collegiate School was Guwahati Seminari.

(e) Swimming is possible because of newton's third law of motion memory.

(f)   The three important functions of mental hygiene are preventive, curative and preservative.

Give short answer in one sentence:

(g)  Write the name of the person who took initiative to formulate ‘National Policy on Education, 1986’.

(i)   Who introduced the concept of Population Education?

(j)   Mention one social quality of a mentally healthy person.

Ans:- They feel comfortable with other people. They can laugh at themselves and with others. Despite differences, they have respect for themselves and others. They are able to accept the disappointments of life.

(k)  Write the formula for finding out mean by ‘assumed mean method’.

Ans:- Assumed mean method formula

Let x1, x2, x3,…,xn be the mid-points or class marks of n class intervals and f1, f2, f3,…, fn be the respective frequencies. The formula for the assumed mean method is: -

(l)   From a batch of 15 students who had appeard for an examination, 5 students failed. The marks of the successful students were – 40, 58, 48, 66, 78, 60, 70, 55, 44, 72. Calculate the median.

2.      Mention two suggestions given by Mudliar Commission for the development of leadership qualities among the student.

Ans:- The suggestions made by the Mudaliar Commission to improve secondary education in India are as follows:

(i) Duration of Secondary Education: So at what age a child has to start his secondary education and till what age should he continue it is very important. Generally the duration of secondary education covers the age group of around 11 to 17 years.

(ii) Diversification of Courses: The Commission laid emphasis on diverse courses of study which would include both general and vocational subjects and students should have the opportunity to choose from them according to their needs.

3.      What does it mean by ‘National System of Education’?

Ans:- The concept of a national education system implies that up to a certain level, all students, regardless of caste, creed, location or gender, have access to education of comparable quality. To achieve this, the government will launch appropriately funded programmes.

Write the structure of Secondary Education as suggested by Kothari Commission.

Ans:- The structure of secondary education as suggested by the Kothari Commission:

(i) General education should be fasted for a period of 10 years – 4 years lower primary, 3 years upper primary and 3 years lower secondary education.

(ii) One to three years of pre school education (Classes A-B-C).

4.      Mention two changes brought in the secondary education system in Assam on the basis of recommendations of Mudaliar Commission.

Ans:- The Board of Secondary Education of Assam was established in 1962 as a result of the recommendations of the Mudaliar Commission 1952-53. Since then the controlling power of secondary education came under the Board of Secondary Education of Assam. The office of the Board is located in Guwahati. During this, 67 high schools were upgraded to higher secondary schools based on the recommendations of the Mudaliar Commission. The Board of Secondary Education Assam regulates two examinations from the time of inception. The first is the High School Inclination Certificate Examination and the second is the Higher Secondary Examination which is currently regulated by the Assam Council of Higher Secondary Education.

As per the recommendations of the Mudaliar Commission, the Government of Assam decided to convert some high schools into multipurpose schools.

5.      Mention two groups of people who may get benefit of Non-formal Education.

Ans:- (i) Backward students.

(ii) Dropout class of students.

Mention two merits of Open Education.

Ans. Open education has certain distinct merits or advantages. They are –

1)   Providing opportunity of education to those people who are working, engaged in jobs, and women who are deprived of education for domestic affairs and for conservative attitude, and thus make them more profitable.

2)   Open education system facilitates the people of rural and remote areas, hilly areas, dropouts, adults, house wives etc. who are unable to get education in time.

6.      Mention two characteristics of Environmental Education.

Ans:- The features of environmental education are as follows:

(i) Environmental education should be a continuous and never-ending process.

(ii) Environmental education should be a lifelong process from birth to the last moment of death.

(iii) It should pay special attention to the complexity of environmental problems.

(iv) It should have social relevance.

7.      Mention two laws of use and disuse of learning.

Ans:- This law states that when a variable relation is made between a condition and a response, so is the strength of that relation, other things being equally enhanced.

The strength of the connection decreases when the variable connection between a condition and a response is not made for a long period of time.

8.      “There is no place for creativity in memory.” Explain.

Ans:- "There is no place for creativity in memory." - A person may have more memory power, but he may not be intellectually healthy.

OR

“Nita has learnt first poem from her book. But after learning the second poem she forgot the first one.” Give psychological reason.

Ans:- This is due to retrospective prohibition. If a new lesson arises immediately after learning a lesson, the new learning creates a hindrance in maintaining the previous learning.

 

9.      “volitional attention may create interest.” Give an example and explain.

Ans:- An example of voluntary addiction can generate interest if a student participates in the study on his own account and not as a result of some external pressure, his attention will be called voluntary attention.

10.      “Mental health is a relative concept.” Give reasons.

Ans: There is another word with the word mental health; That is, mental cleanliness which is very closely related. In the modern context, cleanliness simply means 'the art of living'. This art is very important to keep the body and mind healthy. Thus cleanliness is in the art of living a healthy life. Healthy living simply means disease free physical and mental life.

11.      Explain the relationship between mental health and physical health.

Ans:- Mental and physical health are fundamentally linked. There are many links between mental health and chronic physical conditions that affect people's quality of life, demand for health care and other publicly funded services, and produce consequences for society. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. WHO says that "without mental health there is no health."

Nowhere is the relationship between mental and physical health more clear than in the field of chronic conditions.

There are links between mental and physical health:

(i) Poor mental health is a risk factor for chronic physical conditions.

(ii) People with serious mental health conditions are at greater risk of experiencing chronic physical conditions.

(iii) People with chronic physical conditions are at risk of developing poor mental health.

Social determinants of health affect both chronic physical conditions and mental health. Key aspects of prevention include increasing physical activity, access to nutritious foods, ensuring adequate income, and promoting social inclusion and social support. This creates opportunities to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors related to aspects of mental and physical health.

12.      What is Mode? The mean of a distribution is 25 and Median is 30. Find out the Mode.

Ans. Mode is defines as the size of a score or variable, which occurs most frequently or usually repeated the maximum number of times. It means mode is the most frequently occurring score in a distribution.
