(a) Physical weathering and Chemical weathering.
Ans:- Physical weathering is caused by
physical interactions. Wind-blown sand scours a surface, or water causes
swelling of the underlying structure or weakens a material (or water causes
something to freeze and thus expand and crack), etc.
Chemical weathering is caused by chemical reaction with the surface.
For example, acid rain is eroding the surface of a marble statue, or oxygen in
the air is causing oxidation of the surface layers of a painting, or
ultraviolet light from sunlight is breaking down the chemical pigments of a
paint.
(b) Weather and Climate.
Ans:- Weather refers to the short-term
conditions of the atmosphere while climate is the average daily weather at a
given location for an extended period. We hear about weather and climate all
the time. Most of us check the local weather forecast to plan our days. And
climate change is a "hot" topic in the news. However, there is still
a lot of confusion regarding the difference between the two. Think about it
this way: Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get.
Weather is what you see outside on a particular day. So, for
example, it could be 75° degrees and sunny or it could be 20° degrees with a
heavy snow. That is the weather.
Climate is the average of that season. For example, you can expect
snow in the Northeast in January or hot and humid July in the Southeast. This
is climate. Climate records also include extreme values such as record high
temperatures or record amounts of precipitation. If you've ever heard your
local meteorologist, say "today we reached a record high for the
day," she's talking about climate records.
So, when we are talking about climate change, we are talking about a change in the long-term average of daily weather. Weather in most places can change from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day, and season to season. Climate, however, is the average of weather over time and space.
