Ans:- Mesopotamia roughly corresponds to
present-day Iraq. The name is derived from the green words mesos meaning middle
and potama meaning river. It was so-called that the region was drained by two
rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates.
c) Which languages were used in the administration of the Roman Empire?
Ans:- Latin.
d) Who was Hazarat Muhammad?
Ans:- Hazrat Muhammad is the last
prophet of Allah and the leader of all the prophets. He is the greatest of all
human beings and teachers ever born on earth.
e) From which English year did the ‘Hizri’ year start?
Ans:- 1436.
f) What was the real name of Genghis Khan?
Ans:- Kurultai.
g) What does the word ‘Feud’ mean?
Ans:- A mutual enmity or quarrel that
often lasts or lasts for a long time.
h) Who was Marc Bloch?
Ans: Marc Leopold Benjamin Bloch was a

a) Mention two physical characteristics of the hominids.
Ans:- (i) The bone structure becomes
more fragile and thinner due to less muscle mass.
(ii) The capacity of the skull to accommodate the larger size of the
brain becomes larger.
b) Mention the name of the two rivers that enriched the Mesopotamian
Civilization.
Ans:- Tigris and Euphrates.
c) Mention the name of the goods which were mainly imported by the
Romans.
Ans:- Glass, gold, wines, jewels etc.
d) Mention two Sects of Islam and write one characteristic of each.
Ans:- Siya and Sunni.
e) Write two features of early feudal society in France.
Ans:- The term feudalism is used to
describe the economic, legal, political and social relations existing in Europe
which is the medieval ear. Two characteristics of early feudal society in
France forced the ship to politico-social and economic relations between the
three orders.
(i) Socio-political hierarchy of Lord Wessel
(ii) Feudal mode of production.
(a) Lord Vassel Hierarchy: It was a
hierarchical structure where the large zamindars derived their authority
directly from the king, who was the vassal of the king and the peasants were
the vassals of the zamindars.
(b) Fendl Mode of Production: The other
defining feature of feudalism was the transition from the slave mode of
production to the feudal mode of production. The agricultural economy was
dominated by the large landowner estates of the Fendal lords.
f) Who was Martin Luther and to which European country did he belong?
Ans: Martin Luther was a German monk. He
launched a campaign against the Catholic Church, arguing that a person does not
need a priest to establish contact with God. He said that faith in God can
guide him to the right life and entry into heaven. The movement under his
leadership was known as the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation
became popular in Germany and Switzerland. Luther did not support
fundamentalism.
g) Mention the name of two famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci.
Ans:- Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
h) What do you mean by ‘Industrial Revolution?
Ans:- The Industrial Revolution was the
transition to new manufacturing processes in the period between about 1760 to
1820 and 1840. This transition from hand production methods to machines, new chemical
manufacturing and iron production processes included improved efficiency of
water power., the increasing use of steam power and the development of machine
tools. This also included the change from wood and other bio-fuels to coal.
i) How did the discovery of fire benefit the early men?
Ans:- Agni was very useful. This
provided early men/women a means of warmth and defense – wild animals were
afraid of fire and avoided camps – and allowed them to settle in previously
inaccessible areas. Before the use of fire, men/women could only eat raw foods
– meat, fruits and berries. Now cooking made the food softer, the diet expanded
which helped the men/women to become stronger. One hidden benefit of using fire
is that it has an effect on social groups. Sitting around the heat of a fire,
men and women developed communication skills that helped with their mental
development.
j) In which language the Quran was written and how many Chapters are
there?
Ans:- Arabic and Zo.
k) By whom printing press was invented? Name the first printed book.
Ans:- Bi Sheng/ Gutenberg Bible.
l) Japan contains mainly four islands. What are their names?
Ans:- The four main islands, from north
to south, are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
