a) Who was the author of the book, On the Origin of Species?
Ans:- Charles Darwin.
b) To which family does Hominids belong?
Ans:- Hominidae.
c) What is the meaning of the word ‘Mesopotamia’?
Ans:- Mesopotamia roughly corresponds to
present-day Iraq. The name is derived from the green words mesos meaning middle
and potama meaning river. It was so-called that the region was drained by two
rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates.
d) Which sea separates the continents of Europe and Africa?
Ans:- Mediterranean sea.
e) What was papyrus?
Ans: Papyrus was a reed plant that grew
on the banks of the Nile in Egypt and was processed to produce a writing
material that was very widely used in everyday life. Thousands of contract
accounts, letters and official documents survive on the papyrus, which are a
rich source for opposing Roman history.
f) Who was the first woman Sufi Saint?
Ans:- Hazrat Bibi Rabia Basri.
g) What was Yam?
Ans:- Yam is the rapid courier system
which was started by Genghis Khan.
h) What is the meaning of Feud?

Ans:- Geoffrey Chaucer.
j) Wherefrom is the word Mexico derived?
Ans:- Mexitl, the god of the Aztecs,

Ans:- Imago Mundi.
l) Who were the Hopis?
Ans:- The Hopi are a Native American
tribe, who mainly lived in the Hopi Reservation in North Eastern Arizona.
2. Answer the following questions in brief: 2x12=24
a) Mention two differences between Hominids and Hominoids.
Ans:- The differences between hominids and hominoids are as follows:
(i) Hominoids have smaller brain than hominids.
(ii) Hominids have upright posture and bipedal movement while
hominoids are quadrupedal.
b) Mention two advantages of early men living in caves.
Ans:- The advantages of living in caves are given below:
(i) It helped the men to survive the severe cold.
(ii) It also protected them from poachers.
c) Mention two unique characteristics of town planning in Mesopotamia.
Ans: The earliest Bronze Age
civilization emerged in the main Harappan civilization in the north-western
regions of the Indian subcontinent.
(i) Unlike the towers of Harappan civilization e.g. Mohenjo-Daro,
which was well-planned with wide straight roads, interested in the earliest
known excavated city at right angles, or roads narrow and so winding that a
wheeled cart could not reach many houses.
(ii) The drainage system built at Mohenjo-Daro was spectacular. The
drain of the house emptied all the dirty water into the street drains, which
were clogged with bricks at regular intervals. Pipes were found in the inner
courtyard of the house instead of the ends of the drains.
d) What was Abbasid Revolution?
Ans:- The end of the Umayyads is 750 and
there is a new caliph of Abbas-al-Safa, who oversaw the 500 year long rule of
the Abbasids known as the "Abbasid Revolution". This not only brought
about a change in lineage but also changed the political structure and culture
of Islam.
(i) Arab influence declined with the size of the Abbasids. Central
political power shifted from Syria to southern Iraq, which was reflected in the
establishment of the capital, Baghdad.
(ii) The army and bureaucracy were reorganized on a non-tribal
basis. From then on the Sasamid officers were one of the pillars of Abbasid
rule.
e) Name the first and second Khalifa of the Muslims.
Ans:- First Khalifa-Abu Bakkar, Secund –
Omar.
f) When was Nishapur occupied by Genghis Khan? Why did he order to
destroy the city?
Ans:- In 121 AD, those cities had
started a revolution against him, he ordered the destruction of those cities.
g) Mention two features of medieval feudal society in France.
Ans:- Historians have used Bari
feudalism to describe the economic, legal, political and social relations that
existed in Europe in the medieval era. The medieval feudal society in France
had two characteristics:
(i) In the medieval feudal society in France the nobility enjoyed a
privileged position and had complete control over their wealth.
(ii) The noble was the master of all the people settled on his land.
h) Name two absolutist rulers and their country of 15th and
16th century Europe.
Ans:- Louis XI of France in the 15th
century and Henry VII of England in the 16th century.
i) Who was Michelangelo? Mention one of his masterpieces of art.
Ans: Michelangelo was an Italian painter
and architect. The Pieta is one of his famous art.
j) Who were the Incas? Name the ruler who established their capital at
Cuzco.
Ans:- The Inca civilization of Peru was an important civilization among
the civilization of South America, the people living there were known as Inca.
Manacavo was established with the capital at Cuzco.
k) Where was the subject Anthropology developed? Why was it introduced
in North America?
Ans:- In Germany. The subject was
introduced and studied in North America to learn about the past event.
l) Who was Chiang Kai-shek? What did he tell about women?
Ans:- Chiang Kai-shek was the leader of
Kuomintang. He asked women to develop the qualities of chastity, form, speech
and work.
