(a) What is
cuneiform? From which language is it derived?
Ans: Cuneiform
is a system of writing that was first developed by the ancient Sumerians of
Mesopotamia. 3500-3000 BC The name comes from the Latin word cuneus for
'wedge', due to the wedge-shaped style of writing.
(b) Mention
two agrarian problems of Southern Mesopotamia.
Ans: Arid
climate and poor soil were two major agricultural problems of southern
Mesopotamia.
(c) Write two
main sources used for writing the history of the Roman Empire.
Ans: Primary
and secondary sources.
(d) During
whose reign was the 'Hijri Era' introduced in Central Islamic Empire? Why was
it significant?
Ans: The
Hijri era began during the rule of the Caliphate against Umar. The Hijri year
is a lunar year consisting of 354 days, 12 months (from Muharram to Dhul
Hijjah) with 29 or 30 days. Each day begins at sunset and every month with the
sighting of the crescent moon.
(e) Mention
the two special taxes paid by the non-Muslims in the Central Islamic Empire.
Ans: Jizya
Tax and Kharaj Tax.
(f) Who
composed the book, Al-Qanum FIAL-Tibb? How many names of drugs did it contain?
Ans: The
book was composed by Abdullah ibn Sina. It contained the names of 760
medicines.
(g) What is
the meaning of the monastery'? Name two famous monasteries of Europe.
Ans: A monastery is a building or building on which a community of monks living under religious vows resides. The Alcobacá Monastery is a Roman Catholic monastery located in the city of Alcobacá in central Portugal and the Sumela Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery, standing at the foot of a steep cliff overlooking the Altindere Valley in Turkey.
