1. What is environment?

2. What is physical education?

Ans: Physical education enables the child to have complete physical growth and development to lead a happy and prosperous life. It not only helps in physical development but also helps in mental, social and emotional development of the individual.

3. Write two ways of imparting value education.

Ans: There are two different ways of importing value education, namely: (i) Direct and (ii) Indirect

The systematic and well-thought-out instruction on values provided in the school time-table is known to be a direct way of inculcating important values. In some states, moral education is imported in this way. Here, the values to be inculcated are explained, discussed and illustrated through stories, moral dilemmas and real-life incidents. Indirectly the value education can be imported through regular co-curricular activities.

4. What is population explosion?

Ans: Population explosion is a world phenomenon. About 15% of the total population of the world resides in India. The first fairly reliable estimate of the world's population was made in 1950, which estimated the population to be around 500 million. The population growth during 1971–81 was more than the total population of Brazil, which is the sixth most populous country in the world. However, both China and India are making tremendous efforts to control it.

India presents a peculiar challenge because of its man-land ratio. Relatively stable and high birth rates, steadily declining death rates, and wide regional disparities. Thus, Indians are probably one of the worst hit countries to fall victim to the giant dragon of 'population explosion'. Since independence, India has made tremendous progress in the field of economic and social development, yet all development efforts have been swallowed up by the increase in its population. If India does not start paying serious attention to the galloping pace of population growth with its limited resources, its economic and social structure may soon deteriorate and the human population in the third world is bound to suffer.

Ans: Education for human values or value education refers to the educational program which is prepared for the realities of the society as envisaged in its constitution for the betterment of the society and the individual. It covers all aspects of personality development aesthetic, intellectual, moral, social and spiritual.

7. Define environmental education.

Ans: (a) According to Mishra: “Environmental education appears to be a process that equips human beings with awareness, knowledge, skills, attitude and commitment to improve the environment.”

(b) According to UNESCO: "Environmental education is a way of implementing the goals of environmental protection. It is not a separate branch of science or field of study. It should be carried out in accordance with the principles of integral education throughout life."

(c) According to R. A. Sharma: "Environmental education refers to the awareness of the physical and cultural environment and understanding its relevance to the real-life situation. The problems and issues to be identified. The imbalance of the environment." Improvements are to be made in view of permanent development."

8. What is cultural environment?

Ans: Cultural environment is an integral part of social environment. Folk songs and other forms of folklore are a part of the cultural environment. It gives importance to the growth and development of the individual.

9. What is the price?

Ans: A value is a belief that something is good and worthwhile. It defines what is attainable and what is worth striving for.

10. What is women empowerment?

Ans: Women empowerment means equal status, opportunity and freedom to develop themselves.

11. Give the definition of environment?

Ans: Environment is that which immediately surrounds an object and has a direct effect on it.

12. Describe environmental education as a problem-solving approach.

Ans: Environmental education is the first and most important step to save the environment from further degradation. Thus, the real task of the day is to create awareness, interest among people and environment so as to provide basic knowledge of man-nature interaction and its impact to adopt recommended measures to maintain ecological balance.

13. Define population education.

Ans: Population education can be defined as an educational program that provides study of population phenomenon. So as to enable the students to take rational decisions towards the problems arising out of rapid population growth.

14. Define physical education.

Ans: The main meaning of physical education is to understand, apply and analyze the concepts and principles of movement in order to improve.

15. How physical education can help in developing self-confidence in students.

Ans: Indulging in physical activities such as sports is a huge boost in self-confidence and positive outlook. Participation in sports, martial arts or even dance and aerobics always has a positive effect on the overall personality of a person. There we can say that physical education helps in developing self-confidence in the students.

16. Mention two important issues of women empowerment.

Ans: Low female literacy social status-like violation of women's rights

17. Differentiate between sports and games.

Ans: The purpose of physical education such as sports and games are to promote good health among the students. Games are outdoor games. On the other hand, sports are indoor as well as outdoor. Sports like hockey, volleyball, football, running etc. are sports. On the other hand, there are games like Ludo, Carrom, Badminton etc.

18. Write a short note on 'Rio-de-Janeiro Earth Summit'.

Ans: The very important findings of the Brundtland Report were widely discussed and a debate in the United Nations (1989) led to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the 'Earth Summit' in Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil. is referred to as. June, 1992. In this conference, a comprehensive and far-reaching program for sustainable development was agreed upon in the form of Agenda 21 consisting of 38 chapters. The Earth Summit convened a total of 103 heads of state and government. The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development is a set of principles governing the economic and environmental behavior of individuals and nations in the pursuit of global stability.

19. Discuss about sustainable development as an important aspect of environmental education.

Ans: The role of education is important for sustainable development. Because education and training appear to enhance creativity and rationality as determinants of problem solving and decision making. Sustainable development refers to development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

20. Physical education promotes healthy lifestyle.' explain.

Ans: The purpose of physical education is to promote good health among the students. As students do a variety of physical activities and play sports, they develop good health. In the words of JB Nash, "Health and recreation are the end while physical education activities are the means.

21. Write the names of two committees related to women empowerment in India.

Ans: (i) Durgabai Deshmukh Committee of 1959. (ii) Mrs. Hansa Mehta Committee of 1962.
