Games and Sports should be made compulsory at Higher Secondary level

The proposition to make games and sports compulsory at the higher secondary level is a bizarre idea-impractical and insensible, for such a step will neither contribute to the improvement of games or sports nor will it help to make the younger generation healthy and disciplined. It is impractical because it is not possibly making games and sports compulsory without making them a part of their curriculum. Again, why only at higher secondary level, why not from the high school level?

Such propositions usually come from some over-zealous idealists who try to show their concern for the health of the coming generation. There are at present thousands of schools and colleges in the state with higher secondary classes and most of them have no play grounds for introducing games and sports as compulsory subjects. Moreover, there is the problem

of finding qualified trainers. Besides which games or branches of sports will be included in this ambitious project?

In our times when education has become the most lucrative business, health is not lagging much behind. Health is on the way of becoming much bigger business than education. Already numbers of private clubs and gyms are swelling. In our time nothing is coming free.

One must be able to pay to keep oneself of healthy.

This proposition to make games and sports compulsory is nothing but an empty slogan.

Role of youth in combating corruption in the society

The most distressing aspect of the wide spread corruption in India is the fact that it is no longer confined to politicians or the government machinery alone. It is prevalent among every section of the society at every level.

As the practice of corruption is a dishonest act, one has to admit that most Indians are dishonest.

As the reason for dishonesty is the greed or lust of things at any cost and never to think that the means should justify the ends. Human greed or lust cannot be controlled by laws. In fact, the entire system of country-social, political, even religious - is attacked by the cancer of corruption. In fact, corruption in our country is more like diabetes then cancer, because it can be controlled but cannot totally be eliminated.

Unless general mass is awakened, the evil of corruption cannot be rooted out from our society. It is wrong to expect the youth to combat corruption, for they are the product of the present social and economic system and are more prone to corruption than their elders. Assam had even the experience of handing over power to the youths and they left the state totally ruined. We have before us examples of the great youth leaders of our time. They are no less corrupt than their elders. We must pin our hope on the masses - the peasants and the working class. Only mass revolution can save the country from the jaws of the monstrous animal called corruption.

4. Write a short speech in about 200 words on preservation of bio-diversity in the North-East of India.

Ans:

PRESERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY IN THE NORTH-EAST INDIA

Biodiversity is the sum of all the different species animals, plants and microbial organisms living in an area and the variety of habitats in which they live or grow. It allows the eco-system to function. Its preservation is essential for the well-being of human beings, other animals and plants of that area. However, biodiversity is in serious danger and as in many parts of the world it is also shrinking alarmingly in North-East India. The main cause is the unnatural rise in population owing to unchecked migration of people from Bangladesh as well as from the other parts of the country.

The other main causes are rapid urbanization and destruction of forest areas for setting up factories, and destruction of wetlands etc. As a result, the animals are losing their natural habitats. In recent times the incidents of wild elephants destroying villages, tigers and leopards moving in the streets of town have therefore increased. The disasters like flood, and unnatural droughts are other effects of the destruction of the biodiversity of the entire region.

Unless the region does not adopt elaborate plans of conservation and preservation of the biodiversity of the area a major catastrophe will hit the entire area. All the states should therefore make a concerted effort to chalk out a plan to preserve the biodiversity of entire area.
