Though Changsari is on the periphery of the Capital of the State, Guwahati, it is miles apart from it metaphorically, because it is devoid of proper road communications. Most roads are besides being narrow are full of pot- holes. The last rainy season left almost all the roads of the area badly damaged, and unfit for smooth movement of vehicles. As a result, traffic jam becomes a regular feature. It takes sometimes hours to cross the small distance of the village to reach the highway. Besides there are a number of wooden bridges in horrible condition. There may be mishaps any time. As a result, the inhabitants, particularly office-goers and students have been facing great inconvenience.

In spite of several representations the authorities have taken no step in this regard. I hope this letter will attract the attention of the authorities and they will take up the repair-works of the roads and bridges immediately.

It is high time that appropriate steps are taken to stop the indiscriminate driving of motor cars in the narrow lanes of our densely populated city. Just yesterday a poor, old beggar had a narrow escape from being hit by a speeding motor car. He was crossing the road when the car came at a high speed of about ninety kilometers per hour. Such reckless driving leads to fatal accidents for pedestrians trying to cross the road.

It is true that there are rules regarding speed limits. But unless the police enforce them strictly, what will the motorists care about them? The police seem to pay little or no attention to the criminals. And so motor car accidents are almost a daily occurrence.
