(a) What is age-sex pyramid?

Ans:- The age-sex structure of the population is shown in the shape of a pyramid. This is called the sex-age pyramid.

(b) In which category of activities is trade included?

Ans:- Trading is involved in tertiary activity.

(c) What is mineral?

Ans:- A mineral is a naturally occurring substance that can be represented by a chemical formula, that is usually solid and inorganic, and that has a crystal structure. This is distinct from a rock, which may be an aggregate of minerals or non-minerals and has no specific chemical composition.

(d) What do you mean by ‘communication?

Ans:- Communication is the act of conveying intended meaning to another entity through the use of mutually understood signs and semiotic rules. The basic steps of communication are communicative intent, message creation, message encoding, signal transmission, signal reception, message decoding and finally the interpretation of the message by the receiver.

(a) Name two subfields of Human Geography.

Ans:- The interaction between primitive human societies and the dominant forces of nature has been called environmental determinism.

(b) Name two secondary human activities.

Ans:- (i) Those activities which convert the materials provided by primary activities into goods which are more useful to human beings are called secondary activities.

(ii) There is no direct contact with nature or does not depend on the environment.

(c) Write two characteristics of rural settlement.

Ans:- (i) Primary activities are the main occupations.

(ii) Closely related to agricultural land.

(d) Write two benefits of water transport.

Ans:- Water transport has the following advantages:

(i) The cost of conservation is less.

(ii) It is comparatively less precious than rail and road transport.

(e) Write two major north bank tributaries of the Brahmaputra.

Ans:- The northern tributaries of the Brahmaputra River are the Subansiri and Jia-Bharali.
