6. Explain the role of Raja Ram Mohan Roy as a socio-religious reformer. 2

Ans:- Social Contribution by Raja Ram Mohan Roy: -

 (i) He saw reformist religious associations as an instrument of social and political change

(a) In 1814 he formed the Atmiya Sabha, in 1821 the Calcutta Unitarian Association and in 1828 the Brahmo Sabha or Brahmo Samaj.

(ii) He campaigned for women's rights, including the right of widows to remarry and the right of women to own property.

7. Explain the meaning of a political party. 2

Ans:- A group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government is called a political party.

A political party is an organization that coordinates candidates to compete in the elections of a particular country. It is common for members of a party to hold similar views about politics, and parties may promote specific ideological or policy goals.

8. Explain with examples the two broad categories of programmes which have been implemented for alleviation of poverty in India. 2

Ans:- Poverty alleviation programs aim to reduce the poverty rate in the country by providing proper access to food, monetary assistance and essentials to the families living below the poverty line.

(i) Integrated Rural Development Program (IRDP) 1978 Ministry of Rural Development.

(a) To uplift the families of identified target groups living below poverty line through development of sustainable self-employment opportunities in rural areas.

(ii) Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana 1985 Ministry of Rural Development.

(a) Providing 13 lakh housing units in rural areas as well as creating housing units for all.

(b) To provide loans at concessional rates to the people.

(c) To increase wage employment opportunities to households by providing employment on demand and through specific guaranteed wage employment every year.

9. Define the term 'density of population'. Describe the three physical factors that influence the distribution and density of population. 1+3=4

Ans:- Population density is the number of people living in a unit area of the Earth's surface. It is usually expressed as units per square kilometre. The average density of population in the whole world is 45 persons per square kilometre.

Physical factors affecting population density include water supply, climate, relief (land shape), vegetation, soil, and the availability of natural resources and energy.

Human factors affecting population density include social, political, and economic factors.

10. Describe any four functions of the Election Commission of India. 4

Ans:- The functions of the Election Commission are:-

(i) The Election Commission prepares the list and issues identity cards to the voters.

(ii) The Election Commission will have to prepare a time table for the elections.

(iii) It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct elections in a state.

(iv) The Election Commission allows the eligible candidate to contest the election.

(v) It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to settle the disputes arising during the election.
