1. Answer the following questions: 1x12=12

(a) What is the ideal of logic?

Ans:- Logic is the study of the rules of correct reasoning and thinking. This is the science and art of reasoning well. As a science, logic seeks to discover the laws of logic.

(b) Find out the correct answer: 

Logic is a positive science / normative science. 

(c) How many kinds of propositions are there according to modern classification of proposition?

Ans:- According to modern logic, there are three types of propositions.

(d) The copula of a proposition is a term – Is it true?

Ans:- Yes, the copula of a proposition is a term.

(e) What is the name of the subject of conclusion of a syllogism?

Ans:- Minor term.

(f) Fill in the blank: 

FERIO is a valid mood of the first figure. 

(g) Find out the correct answer: 

Immediate inference has one / two / three premises. 

(h) If p is true and q is false, what will be the value of?

Ans:- 





 

(i) Innate ideas are a priori – Is it true?

Ans:- True.

(j) Name the theory of the origin of knowledge with which the statement ‘Esse est percipi’ is connected.

Ans:- Theory of vision.

(k) How many pramanas are accepted in Indian Philosophy?

Ans:- Indian philosophy accepts six pramanas, which are the means of knowledge.

(l) How many non-vedic systems are there in Indian Philosophy?

Ans:- five.

2. Give two examples of normative science. 2

Ans:- Here are two examples of normative science:-

(i) Environmental ethics: It is a branch of normative science that seeks to develop solutions to ethical issues related to the environment, such as climate change, pollution and conservation.

(ii) Bioethics: It is a branch of normative science that seeks to develop solutions to ethical issues related to health and medicine.

3. Define: Subject term. 2

Ans:- The subject of a proposition is the term, about which something is stated.

4. Which terms is distributed in a universal proposition? 2

Ans:- In a universal proposition, the subject term is distributed.

(i) Universal Affirmative proposition: Which is represented by the symbol 'A'. Example - All men are mortal.

(ii) Universal Negative Proposition: Which is represented by the symbol 'I'. Example - Some men are wise.

5. Give example – Class-membership proposition. 

Ans:- All apples are fruits: This proposition states that all members of the class "apples" are also members of the class "fruits." In other words, all apples are fruits.

6. Reduce any one of the following sentences into proper logical proposition and state the distributed term in the proposition. 2x2=4

(a) Each man is mortal.

Ans:- Universal proposition.

(b) Only the graduates are eligible for the post.

Ans:- Affirmative proposition.

7. How many valid moods are thee in the second figure of a syllogism? 2

Ans:- CESARE, CAMESTRES, FESTINO, BAROCO.

8. Define middle term with suitable example. 2

Ans:- The middle term is the term that appears in both premises of a syllogism but not in the conclusion. It acts as a kind of "bridge" between major and minor terms, allowing the argument to move from premises to conclusion.

For example, in the syllogism "All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Therefore, Socrates is mortal," "man" being the middle word. It is the only word that appears in both the premises ("All men are mortal" and "Socrates is a man") but not in the conclusion ("Socrates is mortal").

9. What do you mean by figure of syllogism? 2

Ans:- In a syllogism, this figure indicates where the middle term appears in a compound. The middle term is a specific word or term that appears in both premises but not in the conclusion. The middle position is related to validity.

10. How many terms are there in a syllogism? 2

Ans:- A valid standard form of a categorical syllogism has three terms. These terms are major, minor and middle terms.

11. Mention any one characteristic of Indian Philosophy. 2
