1. (i) What are the characteristics of a good research report?
(ii)
Discuss the precautions required at the time of interpretation of data with
examples. 8+12

observation research?
(ii)
Discuss the sources of sampling and non-sampling errors with suitable examples.

3. (i) Explain briefly the additive and multiplicative models of
time series. Which of these models is more commonly used and why?
(ii)
Discuss how far the sample proportion satisfies the desirable properties of a
good estimator. 10+10
4. (i) What do you mean by the term “measurement”? Explain the
characteristics and various types of measurement scales.
(ii) How
do you select an appropriate scaling technique for a research study? Explain
the issues involved in it. 10+10
5. (i) Explain the concept of Regression and discuss its utility
in business research.
(ii) What
is Research Design? Explain the functions of a research design. 10+10
6. A survey on the heights (in cm) of 50 girls of class X was
conducted at a school and the following data were obtained:
Height (in cm) |
Number of girls |
120-130 130-140 140-150 150-160 160-170 |
2 8 12 20 8 |
Total |

(i) Ratio
scales permit the researcher to compare both differences in scores and relative
magnitude of scores.
(ii) The
choice between ranking, sorting, or rating techniques is determined by the
problem definition and the type of statistical analysis.
(iii)
Type-I error is committed in rejecting a null hypothesis.
(iv) A
researcher is expected not only to collect and analyse the data but also to
interpret the results of his/her findings.
(v) Statistical
method may be defined as “the collection, presentation, analysis and
interpretation of numerical data”.
