1. Answer any one the following question in about 40-60 words. 2

(a) Identify the main reasons for the decline of the Harappa Civilization. Explain (See Lesson – 1)

Ans:- Several interrelated factors are blamed for the collapse of the Harappan Civilization around 1900 BCE. The main causes include climate change, which led to prolonged droughts that reduced agricultural productivity and flooding caused by the Indus River and its tributaries. Additionally, shifts in river courses and increasing aridity further destabilized the region, leading to urban decay and the eventual abandonment of cities such as Mohenjo-daro and Harappa.

(b) 'In the sphere of religion and culture, the Medieval Period witnessed a great synthesis of traditions'. Analyze the statement.

Ans:- The medieval period in India saw a great syncretism of religious and cultural traditions. These elements ensure governance while protecting the rights of citizens and promoting social justice.

(b) How sustainable development can be a tool to counter Environmental Degradation? Explain (See lesson- 26)

4. Answer any one the following question in about 100-150 words. 4

(a) 'Geography plays an important role in shaping the life and history of any society'. Examine. (See Lesson – 0)

Ans:- Geography significantly influences the development of societies and their histories through a variety of factors, including resource availability, climate, and physical barriers. Physical landscapes shape agricultural practices; for example, societies living in mountainous regions adapt their farming techniques to steep slopes, while those living in fertile river valleys can support larger populations and more complex economies due to easier access to resources. In addition, geographic features such as mountains and oceans can act as barriers or pathways for interaction between different cultures. This affects trade, communication, and cultural exchange. For example, civilizations near the coast often develop strong maritime trade networks, while isolated communities may develop unique cultural identities due to limited outside influences. Thus, geography is a fundamental determinant of social structure, economic development, and historical trajectory.
